Crafty like a Firefox. (Macs for Clinton?)

In the past week, two friends and readers have informed me that GitM is acting somewhat squirrelly in the latest version of Firefox for Mac. Now, I’m a PC guy (by usage and by temperament), so I can’t troubleshoot the problem on my computers here. But, is anyone else out there having issues recently? My guess it probably has something to do with embedded videos, since that’s the only “new” thing around here lately, and most likely I’m betting the problem is either this St. Patrick’s Day post from last week or the Tracey Morgan SNL one right before it. Does anyone know if Firefox (on a Mac) hiccups with certain types of embedded videos, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update: Raza at High Industrial informed me that the offending party was likely the Tracy Morgan post. I’ve now removed the embedded video…Mac Firefoxers, is everything back to normal?

  1. Yeah, it has been freezing up when I go to the page on Firefox, so I’ve been checking it out on Safari.

Do you know of any formal effort to contact supers and persuade them to start coming out with endorsements? (I heard about the “mini convention” idea, but I think it would be a lot more useful to get it clarified before June.

  2. I was having trouble with Firefox on my Mac too, but I was having a lot of trouble anyway because I was trying to switch to Leopard (OS 10.5), and it just wouldn’t take. Now I’m back on Tiger, and it seems to work fine.

  3. I use Safari, and I couldn’t open the Tracy Morgan video. I suspect there may be some plug-in/codec thing that is bundled in the normal Windows/WMP/IE package that isn’t automatically included on the Mac. On the other hand, I can open, for example, the Dr. Who trailer. So YouTube works, at least. Also, regarding the Tracy Morgan video, the link to http://www.redlasso.com appears to be dead — when I open it, it says this video is not available.

  4. I’m using firefox on mac, and just upgraded to Leopard, which (contrary to Eric’s experience) seems to have solved the problem

as I typed that, my firefox quit unexpectedly, then reopened with my first half of my comments cached. I guess it’s not solved! But I am reading GitM in firefox now. Not sure why it seems sporadic.
