Break out the black turtleneck – it’s the return of mope rock! The Strokes be damned – Here‘s a derivative trend I can get into. And, strangely enough, I’ve had Joy Division in the CD player all week…who knew I was catching the zeitgeist? At any rate, hopefully some of these new acts can erase the bad memory of those fools Orgy butchering “Blue Monday.“

The return of “cry in your pillow at night” music has been on the rise for some time now. I didn’t reach the age of reason until the 90’s, so I don’t remember too clearly if people used this sort of music to justify themselves like they do now, but anyhow its ridiculous. I see examples upon examples of kids in my hometown who “mope” around trying their damnest to seperate themselves from pop-culture and society. Most go through it in their teenage years, but never have I seen people my age (early twenty-somethings) doing the same exact thing….and even encouraging the youth on. I’m not gonna turn republican and say take it off the air, but it sure isn’t helping anyone out.
