Ever wonder how the Feebles got so depraved? Perhaps this explains it…Tales of the Plush Cthulhu. (Via Lots of Co.)

Doris Kearns Badwin.
According to the LA Times and Mickey Kaus of Slate, another book of Doris Kearns Goodwin‘s, No Ordinary Time, suffers from Ambrose Syndrome (Ambrosia?). That’s a shame.
Doctorate of Evil.
Also from Genehack (What can I say, his links, as per usual, are butter), The Top 100 Things I’d Do
If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord. For example, No. 22: No matter how tempted I am with the prospect of unlimited power, I will not consume any energy field bigger than my head.
Better Bombing Through Chemistry.
Giving new meaning to the term “War on Drugs,” the Air Force is giving pilots uppers and downers for bombing raids. If it’s anything stronger than a Red Bull, it’s probably not a good idea, as no doubt many Afghan civilians can attest. (Via Genehack.)
Hey Jude (Come back!)
Apparently, Jude Law has dropped out of Superman and Batman (He didn’t want to be forced into Joel Schumacher sequels), to be replaced by Josh Hartnett. Hmmm…not sure if I see it, but it might work.
Drug War Disparities.
Noelle Bush gets rehab, the poor and black get hard time. Salon surveys the coalition to overturn NY’s Rockefeller laws. (Via Quiddity.)
An Oxford Stroll.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s Oxford, interactive. Also, those well-to-do folks out there looking for a more substantive piece of Middle Earth’s history should go here. (On a related note, how great is it to finally have Fellowship legitimately on DVD? No more “Property of New Line blah blah blah” scrolling over the best parts.)
Trade Winds Blowing.
Many NBA trades went down in my absence, including Miller to the Clips, Big Dog to the Hawks, and – the biggest – Mutombo to NJ for Van Horn. While that’s a great pickup for Jersey (and losing Van Horn is addition by subtraction), I’m actually kinda glad the Knicks-Mutombo trade fell through. Much as I’d love to see Travis Knight off the roster, I gotta think Kurt Thomas has more upside than Mutombo these days. I’d say Mutombo’s probably a season or a slight injury away from looking Ewing-tired. We’ve already been down that road with Glen Rice and Mark Jackson.
Hello again.
I’m back from a week-long sojourn on the lovely garden isle of Kauai. (I would’ve mentioned the trip here, but some members of my family didn’t know I was coming, so I didn’t want to spoil the surprise.) Much snorkeling, hiking, and other outdoorsy fun was had, and I now feel quite recharged for the semester to come. Alas, I managed to hideously (sun)burn my feet on a Catamaran cruise we took. (Think hot dogs in the microwave too long…swollen, bubbling…well, you get the idea.) Fortunately, I have so much research work to do this week that I can spend much of it propped up at the PC. At any rate, forgive me if I blog a few things today that may seem stale…I have quite a bit of catching up to do.
Check your head.
For reasons I will discuss upon my return, GitM is on hiatus until August 10. (Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious.) See you then.
