With Spring right around the corner, Hollywood serves up a twin helping of lousy little league coaches: First, Billy Bob Thornton turns on the Bad Santa in Richard Linklater’s Bad News Bears remake, and then Will Ferrell channels Mike Ditka (and Victory) in the full trailer for Kicking and Screaming.

_The Bad News Bears_ was one of the best movies of the 70s. When you think of how bleak, depressing, and ugly so many 70s movies were (Scorsese, Altman), and then to have one starring kids–I love it. Even with Linklater and Billy Bob, I’m not looking for a remake. Look at the photo of the new Amanda–Tatum O’Neal was knee-deep in cocaine by 1976! Are they going to find a thuggish Tanner to slur his teammates? The trailer has some funny lines, but will there be a Vic Morrow looking as if he’s about to take a swing at his son? How about a theatrical rerelease instead? Remember those?
