The Henson Company announces a forthcoming sequel to 1982’s The Dark Crystal, entitled The Power of the Dark Crystal. Hopefully, at this point, I’ll no longer be frightened by Garthims or that weird soul-sucking Skeksis torture room.

The Leak has Sprung.
B.K. DeLong of Brainstream reports that The Leaky Cauldron, the Harry Potter-themed blog I started at the old Geocities site years and years ago, has not only been deemed J.K. Rowling’s favorite fan site, but is also on the short list of press invites to Rowling’s home once the Half-Blood Prince arrives. A hearty congrats to the Cauldron team!
What did I have to do with this? Less than nothing, really — the site just kinda sat there until B.K. took it over and turned it into the flagship Potter fan site. But I did find this news another interesting reflection of just how much Internet-time’s passed since GitM first got off the ground (the second in two days.) I’m old, Gandalf. I may not look it, but I feel it…

The Cassini discovers a new moon within Saturn’s rings. “Tentatively called S/2005 S1, the moon measures four miles across and is about 85,000 miles from the center of Saturn.” (Via Corsairs United.)

So, that‘s what he’s been up to. Apparently, David Lynch has been shooting a film called Inland Empire, with Laura Dern, Justin Theroux, Harry Dean Stanton, and Jeremy Irons, for the past two years. “‘It’s about a woman in trouble, and it’s a mystery, and that’s about all I want to say about it,’ said Lynch recently.“
Bolton’s Loose.
“After hours of deliberation, telephone calls, personal conversations, reading hundreds of pages of transcripts, and asking for guidance from Above, I have come to the determination that the United States can do better than John Bolton.” Nevertheless, Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) will let the Bolton nod go to a floor vote, arguing he has “every faith in [his] colleagues” to do the right thing. (Sen. Chafee (R-RI), for his part, already reluctantly folded.) “Voinovich called Bolton ‘the poster child of what someone in the diplomatic corps should not be.’ He said Bolton would be fired if he was in the private sector.” Update: Fred Kaplan has more: “A special place in the halls of cowardice should be reserved for Sen. Lincoln Chafee, the Republican from Rhode Island.”

The Swan Takes Flight.
Family plug: My sister Gill will be heading ABT’s production of Swan Lake (filmed at the Kennedy Center this past February) on PBS’s Great Performances Monday, June 20, at 9pm. I caught it tonight at a special viewing at Channel 13 headquarters for the dancers (and their NYC-residing brothers), and Gill & company look amazing. It’s well worth catching if you harbor even the slightest interest in ballet (and, for that matter, even if you don’t…c’mon now, Swan Lake is a classic.) 🙂
