The waiting is the hardest part.

Well, fuck. Here we go again. At 3:10am, Ohio is still up in the air, and may well be for days, as we wait for the provisional ballots to be counted. Right now, Dubya’s up by 140,000 votes with 99% reporting, which means Kerry has to run the table with those 175,000 provisionals to go over the top. Doable, sure, but we’re definitely running really low on ammo at this point.

I’ll save the real post-mortem for when the winner’s declared (and I’m less tired), but obviously both my earlier confidence and most of today’s exit polls were, um, somewhat off. So, more tomorrow. For now, I’m off to bed, where I’m going to try not to dwell on the future of the Supreme Court.

Update: 3:49am…Oof, there went Daschle. I think it’s safe to say at this point that our party is in disarray. Still, given that 51% of the electorate signed off on four more years of Dubya tonight, despite the arrogance and incompetence displayed by this White House since January 2001…well, perhaps we Dems are destined to remain a minority party for some time to come.

  1. Personally I think Terry McAuliffe should resign immediately. Gephardt going was a good start, and now that Daschle is out, it is a very good time to think about the future… other than moving to Canada. While it may be debateable whether Terry McAuliffe is the complete failure that I think he is, I bet many people would agree that fresh faces may be in order.

It is a sad day because the American people voted for a man who pissed away the largest budget surplus in history (and replaced it with the biggest deficti in history), wiped his ass with the Constitution, started an illegal war in order to benefit his friends and family’s oil interest, and then scared people into voting for him. He successfully was able to snow the American people (with the help of F-O-X) into believing that Saddam Hussein was behind the WTC attack, and got a free ride when he let the guy who really was responsible get away. And not only that, somehow was able to get people to forget the WTC attack happened ON HIS WATCH.

Obama for President in 2008! I’ll be sure to send my overseas absentee ballot in time to be counted, I promise.

  2. wow. ditto. i am SO proud to say that i live in Illinois, that great blue state of the midwest. Obama is the greatest thing since sliced bread…i just wish we didn’t have to go through another four years of hell for the Dems to get their act together.
