Oh no. This is horrible news. Wellstone was the progressive lion of the Senate. He’s going to be missed in so many ways. And, while it seems utterly rude to consider politics at this moment of personal tragedy, lest anyone else out there was at first imagining a Jeanne Carnahan scenario to save the contested Senate seat, his wife and daughter are also among the deceased. Will Governor Ventura appoint someone to the seat? Ted Mondale or Skip Humphrey? Whomever it is, I’m positive they won’t fill Wellstone’s shoes.
Paul Wellstone was one of the last champions of the little guy, fighting daily for campaign finance reform, corporate accountability, universal health care, and a cleaner, safer environment. When the Democrats were falling over each other to prostrate themselves before Gore, Wellstone broke ranks to support Bill Bradley. When all too many of his Democratic colleagues in Congress voted to cede their constitutionally-mandated authority to debate and declare war, Wellstone voted no to Dubya’s Johnson-esque power grab. In sum, Wellstone had in surplus those characteristics that are in such short supply in today’s Capitol — vision, compassion, and above all, integrity. In a sea of mealy-mouthed, equivocating liberals, he was a bold, fighting progressive.
And he is struck down in his prime. Meanwhile, Jesse “Race-baiting” Helms and Strom “Dixiecrat” Thurmond just go on and on and on. Sometimes the world seems so goddamn unfair I just can’t wrap my mind around it.
Times like this I suspect the Evil Empire is going to win in the end after all. God seems to be on their side 😛
Have you seen the AlterNet article implying Wellstone was murdered? No actual proof in it, mind you, just suspicion due to the timing of the thing.
Mr Bush and his cronies are murderers and those who believe their lies and deceit need only to read the latest in a long line of expose books by David Icke “Alice In Wonderland and the World Trade Center Disaster” to realise that Mr Wellstone was in fact how can you put it…surplus to requirements…..as are many people who have stood firm in opposition to the elite. Try reading “The Biggest Secret” or “Trance Formation of America” by Cathy O’Brien & Mark Phillips, try watching the Clinton Chronicles…..what you have here is a one party country and a massive smoke screen….sounds fantastic I know…believe me I am as skeptical as the next man until the hard facts are placed in front of my eyes.

President Bush is no killer. Bush doesn’t lie on
purpose. It is hardly in Conservatives’ nature to
kill or to lie on purpose. Bush is a generous
man and treats people with respect.
Radical lefties like Jennifer demand compassion,
peace and inclusion. But, you kill babies, often
are soft on crime, give handouts to many able-
bodied bums, turn funerals into rallies and boo
your polite opponents, violate handicap parking/
seating, rip corporations who take care of many
consumer needs, destroy property, block traffic
and cry foul when cops are right, and because of
Bush, you oppose the defeat of evil dictators and
the liberation of terrorized citizens.
Under clinton (who hates the Military, cut its
funding, sold military secrets and rejected 3
offers to have bin laden handed over to USA),
lefties never protested loss of innocent life.
You never demanded UN/coalition support or that
weapons of mass murder be found, yet you spewed
concern for such weapons.
You want peace? Great. Thoroughly defeat the
terrorists. You lefties are not who you claim
to be. We rock, U Suck!!
