Excellent? Really? It actually dampened my expectations somewhat. There was some neat visual stuff (though I was surprised by how much it looked like one of the other Batman movies — the visuals we’d seen before now seemed different and distinctive), but that absolutely grotesque Ken Watanabe shot / line and the possibly-on-the-wrong-side-of-campy Cillian Murphy bit really stung. I’m still looking forward to it, but I’m a bit less convinced that it’ll be good now.
Yeah, ok, Ken Watanabe looked goofy. But I actually really liked Cillian Murphy’s line reading (which is why I put it in my post.) He seems pretty deranged, a la Jonathan Crane, and he also seemed curious in a Year-One kinda way about exactly who or what this “Bat Man” is.
I actually had more trouble with the Katie Holmes stuff on this end.
I’m with you, Kevin. It looks pretty good, but the percentage of trailer time devoted to the tacked-on romance has me worried.
