Let’s hope that the initial signs of autocracy do not become a harbinger. The years ahead look difficult enough already for all of us.

But you answered the question with your one stock. πŸ™‚ It’s more fun/psychologically satisfying to support individual companies whose products/services you prefer. And, while it has more risk/reward, that’s something I can bear, in small doses, with a few decades to go before retirement.

The weighted target funds will handle the diversification – I look at it this way: why should I, a casual investor, have any chance of doing better than the market (which the funds will reflect)? So my view is that individual securities are gambling money and I don’t have any gambling money. (I think we hold one individual stock based on spousal affection for a company-you can guess which one-which I indulge, but not too much…. πŸ™‚ )

FWIW: We’ve found the postcard advice (http://lifehacker.com/all-the-financial-advice-youll-ever-need-on-a-4×6-inde-1334131550) to be a pretty useful model. Put as much as possible into broad-based indexes with low, low fees and hold.

(Also, keep an ear out for what Barry Ritholtz has to say.)

Yeah, the preservation world does seem to be in a moment of transition. But here in DC at least, one gets the sense there’s a lot of positive creative ferment happening right now.

I look forward to reading it. The deep need for attitude updates, especially in the West where the action takes place, CRM archaeologists, civic committees, SHPO offices, etc., has been evident to some (myself included) for some time. I wish I still have an effective soapbox to say it from…

Hope to watch Ex Machina this weekend and have the Big Short queued up behind it.

Only saw 9 movies that came out in 2015 and off to an even slower pace this year, (Getting around to watching Orphan Black has used up a significant portion of my available viewing hours.)
