"Summer blockbusters and holiday hits make up the bulk of box office revenue each year, while contenders for the Oscars tend to attract smaller audiences that build over time. Here's a look at how movies have fared at the box office, after adjusting for inflation." From last February and by way of Lotta, the NYT graphically represents the past 22 years of box office receipts as a series of waves, so you can easily determine both the intensity and duration of each flick's performance. And it's searchable by individual film too -- Note the Titanic tsunami.
