Almost Blue.

As seen at many fine blogs this past Thanksgiving week (including FmH & Medley), some nice visual data to be thankful for (and for all those red state/blue state dualists to ponder): One year after Election 2004, America's blue over Dubya.

I bet it is even lower in Vermont than shown. I love my adopted state.

Looking at the numbers, it seems Rhode Island hates Dubya the most, followed by New York, followed by a tie between Vermont and Delaware. So you're in good company.

Kev, do you know how W's polls compare to other presidents? Is it normal for presidents to have approval ratings above 50%? (An honest question...I really have no idea.)

I do like the looks of this, though. The blue is so much more calming than that angry election-day red.

Pickle: Slate's Bruce Reed has written a few articles comparing Dubya's numbers to other presidents. Right now, Bush is tied with his Dad for the third-highest disapproval rating since they've been taking polls (60%), behind Carter (66%) and Truman (67%).

Pickle said:

Thanks! That was a good article. I wonder if he'll pass 67%?

[hijacks thread for meta-aside:] Scully - I'm so out of it - I had no idea you'd moved to Vermont! I went to school with NTodd - tell him hello for me. I keep telling NowThis that moving back to northern New England (VT, NH, or ME, not sure which) should be on our 5-10 year plan. And I'm more than half-serious about it... (We honeymooned near Rutland, VT..)

Kansas, hell. What's the matter with Utah and Idaho?
Not really that shocking, of course. Looks like the real story, to me, is places like my home-state of Arkansas (home to a Baptist Minister Governor), my sister's adopted state of Missouri (home of Dancin' John Ashcroft), my fiancee's state of Florida (home to Mel Martinez, Kitty Harris, and Jeb)...
Well, just look at all the southern states. You can almost see Americans rethinking the wisdom of ballot they cast in 2004. That's quite something.
